How to execute: Tilt Nunchuck analog stick

How to execute: Shake the Wii Remote
Used to break boxes, stun enemies, shoot yourself out of a star launcher, and much more. Use it in midair to get a slight boost in both height and distance; this can be a recovery move.
| Jump |
How to execute: Press A on Wii Remote
Mario's signature move, jumping is used to clear gaps, activate switches, and defeat enemies by landing on their heads (or other applicable weak points). Mario can perform double and triple jumps by pressing A multiple times consecutively. Mario leaps very high into the air with the triple jump.
| Backflip |
How to execute: Press Z+A
Introduced in Super Mario 64, the Backflip is performed by jumping while crouching (hence the button combination). Mario can use this move to access high areas that he normally wouldn't have access to.
| Wall Jump |
How to execute: Press A on Wii Remote while touching a wall
Also introduced in Super Mario 64, the Wall Jump is used to scale great heights. When two vertical walls are parallel to one another and sufficiently close together, Mario can wall jump between the two to reach the top. Timing is crucial: the A button must be pressed just as Mario touches the wall.
| Side Flip |
How to execute: While running, tilt analog stick in opposite direction and press A
The handy side flip is used to gain extra height as well as quickly dodge an incoming attack.
| Long Jump |
How to execute: Z+A while running
A highly useful move, the long jump is used to cross very large gaps. The tradeoff is that Mario's jump is lower than usual, so long jumping to a higher platform is usually unsuccessful.
| Ground Pound |

How to execute: Press Z on Nunchuck while in midair.
Used to destroy enemies, pound stakes into the ground, break cracks, activate switches, and more.

Reading is important: sometimes the information provided may just be crucial!
| Pole Maneuvers |
How to execute: Press A on Wii Remote near a pole to grab on. Tilt analog stick to climb.
Sometimes, Mario will need to climb poles to reach higher positions. To do so, tilt the nunchuck's analog stick up. To descend, tilt the stick down. To jump off, press A to let go.
| Crouch |
How to execute: Press Z on nunchuck.
Ducking is used to avoid overhead spikes/hazards. Jumping while ducking results in performing a back flip.
| Hold and Throw |
How to execute: Shake Wii Remote.
Mario can grab and throw items like Koopa shells to defeat enemies or break open treasure chests.
| Swim/Dive |
How to execute: Press A on Wii Remote to swim, Z on nunchuck to dive
While underwater, Mario can flutter kick by holding A, and swim breaststroke by repeatedly tapping A. Holding A at the water surface causes Mario to jump out of the water. Mario can also use the Nunchuck's Z button to dive.
| Skate |
How to execute: Shake Wii Remote.
While on icy surfaces, Mario can skate by shaking the remote and change directions with the nunchuck's analog stick. Skating is faster than running.
| Grab/Shoot Star Bits |
How to execute: Direct Wii Remote pointer to collect; press B to shoot
Both the first player and the second player (if playing cooperative mode) can collect the star bits by pointing at them with the Wii Remote's pointer. Pressing B shoots the star bits at enemies to defeat them.
