Prankster Comets
There are five type of comets, each of which causes an different effect when it collides with a galaxy. All of them appear randomly, with the last type unlocked only after beating the game. These special missions yield 30 additional Power Stars.

Speedy Comet
This comet forces Mario to complete a level within a certain time limit for a Power Star. If the player runs out of time, he loses a life and is forced to restart.

Daredevil Comet
This comet reduces Mario's life meter to just a single unit, with no possibility of upgrading throughout the duration of the challenge. If Mario gets hit even once, he is forced to restart. This challenge is often initiated for boss battles.

Cosmic Comet
This comet forces Mario to race with Cosmic Mario, the speedy shadow clone of himself. If Mario wins the race, he gains a Power Star; otherwise, he loses a life and is forced to restart.

Fast Foe Comet
When this comet strikes, all the enemies in a level are sped up (move faster) by a factor of two.

Purple Coin Comet
Unlocked after beating the game the first time, Purple Comets make purple coins appear all over a level. Mario must collect 100 of them, as in the style of Super Mario 64, to earn a Power Star.
